Meet Our Chief Grower

Jacqueline Gooden Seay

My inspiration for horticulture stems from many paths of my life.  My grandparents, Fleming and Annie Shelton were farmers and established the farm.  My grandfather purchased the land on Jan. 18, 1907, The family church, Union Grove Baptist Church, was referred to as "the Grove."  Thus, the name Shelton Gardens at the Grove.  I pay homage to Virginia State University for guidance in leading to the path of planting lavender.  My parents, Allen and Christine, received met at VSU and earned degrees form this historical HBCU.  We, the Gooden siblings, continue to honor them by contributing to scholarships for VSU.   My vision for Shelton Gardens is to provide a place of contentment and happiness on the pasturelands our parents and grandparents gifted the next generation.
